Frequent Questions and Answers:
How much does and investigation cost? As we are a non profit making service we do not charge for investigations, all we ask is for your permission, and your co-operation on the evening of the investigation. Are investigations confidential? In short yes they are. We like to do a write up for our web page and feature some results and evidence, however, we never disclose the exact location and we do not use any personal or private information. What equipment do you use? Click on the 'Equipment' button on the top left of our home page. How do I exchange links between my website and yours? If you visit our links exchange page, you can download either .zip file containing an animated header or static banner. Can I use images/documents/videos from your website? No, but you can place a link to the page that you are interested in if you copy the page's URL. Who do I contact if I have problem with the website? Simply visit the CONTACT US page and fill in a form or use one of the e-mails there. You say the investigation is free and confidential, but what about the equipment you use? I can't afford a huge electric bill. Most of our equipment is powered by batteries which we check and renew as we need to at no cost to you. We have recently invested in a cctv type system which does need to be plugged in to your mains supply but we are, reliably, informed that it costs only a few pence to run. Remember too that we would only be using it for the duration of the investigation and so it should not have a huge effect on your utility bill. What is a Trigger Object?
What is a "residual" haunting? This is a most common variety of haunting, and its is like a loop in a video recording. An event that originally had some significance to someone and is played over and over again, that gives the impression the figures are in a time warp, they have no awareness of themselves or surroundings, they can not interact with anyone, and like a movie being played.
What is an 'Intelligent Haunting'? A supernatural entity that is aware of it's surroundings, and/or observers, and is capable of interacting with them.
What is a cold spot? A place that is cooler than the surrounding area. It is thought to be a sign of a supernatural presence, drawing energy from the environment, in order to make its self known. Why do we conduct investigations mainly at night? Well before we answer this, I just have to say, we take every opportunity to investigate, day or night. We believe the energy of ghosts/spirits are move freely amongst us all of the time. People are generally aware of this to a greater or lesser degree. Most paranormal investigators would prefer to investigate during the dark hours. The reason for this is quite simple our cameras like the infra red ones we use pick up things much clearer in the dark. Things, in general, are quieter and people are more relaxed, making the veil between 'spirit' and 'earthly' world much thinner and easier to communicate. Paranormal activity most often manifests itself after dusk. It is also believed that spirit entities need energy to make themselves visible, and they require less energy at night. If you think of these 'entities' as light, during the day they are barely visible but at night you are more likely to notice them. It might be worth just adding a cautionary note here. Of course, our senses are also heightened at night, and in dark, eerie places so we are always careful to take this into consideration when out on an investigation and later reviewing evidence.
What is a poltergeist? Poltergeist is a German word,'Polter' meaning noisy and 'Geist' meaning spirit. The entity is usually invisible, although figures can sometimes be seen. People experience taps, knocks, bangs, bed shaking, things moving especially furniture, breaking crockery, the list is endless. No two poltergeists are the same. This phenomena can be a 'one off' experience or can go on for a number of years. It is common belief that poltergeists are drawn to places where there is an element of unrest e.g. a member of the household may going through a very stressful time.
They are also often attracted by adolescent children, particularly girls. I'm sure most of us have seen the film - The Exorcist. What is a EVP? EVP stands for Electronic Voice Phenomena. Investigators set up digital recorders and ask the spirits questions. Usually nothing is heard at the time but when the recorders are played back, voices can sometimes be heard quite clearly in response to the questions asked. Sometime a voice can be recognised. It is also possible to use equipment to make 'white noise' although an untuned tv or radio can generate the same effect. |
